First Journey

Where We Fell in Love with Handcrafts

In 2007, what began as a family getaway to South America became the start of something we never expected. While visiting local markets, we were captivated by the handmade crafts, the colors, the traditions, and especially the people behind them. We began meeting artisans and their families, learning about their work, their communities, and the stories carried in the pieces they made.

We brought a small collection of those discoveries back to the United States and began sharing them at local fairs and festivals. The response surprised us. People wanted to know more — not only about the crafts, but about where they came from and who had made them.

So we returned to South America. This time, we went beyond the markets and into the artisans' workshops, villages, and everyday lives. Those visits grew into friendships and creative partnerships, allowing us to work together on new ideas and custom designs — and to bring home not just beautiful handcrafts, but the stories and traditions behind them.

The Markets

Where Color, Craft & Curiosity Came Alive

The markets were where everything came alive. Every street and stall was filled with color, texture, music, and handmade treasures waiting to be discovered. We wandered through rows of woven textiles, bags, paintings, jewelry, and artisan goods, each one reflecting the culture and creativity of the place it came from.

Some markets were open beneath the sun, framed by mountains and old streets. Others were tucked into narrow passageways overflowing with fabrics and craftwork. With every visit, we discovered not only beautiful objects, but the spirit, tradition, and artistry woven into everyday life.

On our return to South America, we set out on a new mission of discovery: to find the makers behind the wonderful treasures we had found in the markets. That journey took us into small villages, where we uncovered hidden gems and met artisans whose talent, traditions, and dedication gave each piece its soul. As we listened, learned, and experienced more of their world, our journey became something deeper — not only a search for beautiful handcrafted work, but a lasting connection to the people, culture, and stories behind it.
